Municipal Solid Waste and Leachate Characterization in the Cairo Metropolitan Area
نویسندگان
چکیده
The composition of municipal solid waste (MSW) in the Cairo metropolitan area is investigated. outputs MSW sorting analysis at various locations with different management schemes are presented. Organics (58–75%) and plastic (19–28%) main components a higher percentage organics landfills compared to dumpsites. leachate quality analyzed, results indicate that concentration macro inorganic pollutants (NH4+, Na+, Ca2+, Cl−) heavy metals (e.g., Cd2+ Zn2+) exceeding majority values reported literature cities all over world. There was no evidence an effect recycling process on chloride leachate, while iron reduced. variation time for two samples collected from same landfill first sample two-year-old, second sixteen-year-old. significant increase chloride, sodium, chromium, calcium, magnesium. implications longevity barrier systems discussed.

uranium in municipal solid waste landfill leachate
landfill leachates and leachate sediments were investigated in order to survey the discharge of uranium (u) from municipal solid waste (msw) landfills and municipal solid waste incinerator (mswi) bottom ash landfills. concentrations of u in the leachates were as high as or higher than concentrations of cd, a metal more often discussed when considering the environmental effects of landfill leach...

متن کاملLeachate characterization and assessment of groundwater pollution near municipal solid waste landfill site.
Leachate and groundwater samples were collected from Gazipur landfill-site and its adjacent area to study the possible impact of leachate percolation on groundwater quality. Concentration of various physico-chemical parameters including heavy metal (Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb and Zn) and microbiological parameters (total coliform (TC) and faecal coliform (FC)) were determined in groundwater and lea...
متن کاملLeachate Characterization and Surface Groundwater Pollution at Municipal Solid Waste Landfill of Gohagoda, Sri Lanka
As a developing country, protecting groundwater resources is extremely essential in Sri Lanka. Landfills are one of the main sources of water pollution. The filling of the Gohagoda disposal yard, takes place at a distance about 50m from Gohagoda water intake plant. In addition, there is several boreholes located close proximity of the landfill, which used for drinking and domestic purposes. A s...
